Setup
ASTS sold off sharply following the announcement of a convertible note financing.
While the market focused on near-term dilution, I viewed the reaction as excessive relative to the long-term business thesis.
Earnings remain approximately 32 days away, leaving the option cycle free of event risk.
The eight-day expiration provides elevated premium while allowing assignment at a price I consider acceptable for long-term ownership.
Structure
The put was sold at the $57 strike.
That level sits near the post-selloff support area.
Break-even is approximately $55.03, providing additional downside cushion beneath the current market price.
The trade was initiated after a news-driven selloff rather than after an extended rally.
Assignment quality remained the primary consideration.
Assignment Logic
Assignment at $57 would create an effective cost basis near $55.03 after premium.
The objective is not to avoid assignment.
It is to own three hundred AST SpaceMobile shares at a price I believe reflects an overreaction to the financing announcement.
If assigned, the position moves into Covered Call management.
Premium Context
Premium is elevated for an eight-day option.
IV remains significantly above normal following the news.
The premium reflected:
- elevated implied volatility
- uncertainty following the financing announcement
- short-duration pricing
The premium was compensation.
The ownership thesis justified the trade.
Trade Structure
Management Plan
The recent support zone remains the key level to monitor.
If assigned, the position transitions into Covered Call management under the Wheel Strategy.
No additional contracts beyond planned portfolio sizing.
The objective remains disciplined long-term ownership rather than maximizing short-term premium.
Process Note
This trade was not selected because it offered the highest premium available.
It was selected because I was comfortable owning ASTS after what I believe was an excessive market reaction to the financing announcement.
The premium was compensation.
The ownership thesis was the reason.
Assignment is part of the Wheel Strategy.
No prediction.
Just process.
